[Naturally, after watching the twinkie toast for a few more seconds, Jack hurries to finish opening his new one.
The book gets put aside so Jack can safely ("safely") snap his own firepower into his left hand, and with a glance at the Captain's hands for reference, he holds his new twinkie over his burning hand.
... It's taking longer to get to it than the Captain's, also inexplicibly, but it is starting to look a little more golden at the corners. Huh.]
( holds her glass so that banging doesn't send this alcoholic treat flying, but could also honestly care less about it. this is good, clarke leans in a little. )
That's what I took away too. They're the bones of this whole thing, aren't they? And somehow the ones who just vanish, they consume them.
But it's not just your brothers, is it. There's got to be older ones, predating your time here. I — ( a lightbulb somewhere is flickering ) — I have to wonder who the first was.
[scooches closer to eagerly place the lumpily wrapped package into his hands. inside are two pairs of matching questionably hideous tie-dye socks. that she made herself!
just kinda stares in a way that conveys: open it open it openitopenit]
I don't know. I thought all the past passengers were reduced to bumbling, drink serving shells of themselves. ( sorry/rip bartender ) But the ones that came back seemed their entire selves, like they'd just been stewing in The Nothing this entire time. And I can't imagine Pickles being personally bound to the ship.
I guess... what parts are contained in those shreds would matter the most...
[Absolutely. Riveting and full of new discoveries, like the fact that 'burning' must have been used in the 'set on fire' sense when talking twinkies, because Jack has just blackened one end of his twinkie, and it's starting to smell.]
Shit-
[He moves the twinkie away and shakes out his hand, looking at the black bubbling happening at that particular end, the burnt sugar smell.
... And with about two seconds passing, he shrugs and shoves it into his mouth, whole. By the look on his face, it's a lot like eating a once-burning marshmallow off the stick, which is to say molten.
He chokes it down and in what could be a questionable move, grabs the whisky and knocks it back to cool off his tongue. It works at the cost of the aftertaste the affair leaves, and so Jack sounds a little breathless as he pulls the bottle away.]
[A deep breath. Is he being cynical by saying that they are a target? Because that's certainly not the general vibe she's been getting and she went to that dumb meeting.]
[She removes her hand. Sound still feels muffled on that side, and she scowls, but--it'll return, so she tries to get back to the original question, even if she'd really like to fireball Jenny right now.]
I'm asking you how sigils work--what did you actually learn about using them?
[there's no way to roll his eyes fondly but just know it's happening mentally] And now a huge majority of passengers will have proof of it. I'll figure out how to make them see it for what it was.
[seeing the Captain with Judith in hand is a curious delight, and he takes her gently from his hands.]
Ughhhh. [He tilts his head back, taking the blanket as he does.] That girl is lucky nobody has force-fed her own feet to her.
[-- Huh, yeah, that's a pretty fair concern, to be fair. Especially worded like that.]
I didn't mean to assign it to you, but yes, it's an understandable concern. We are pretty weird. [He might mean "codependent" there...] And even if it were... I think you've earned the right to be selfish. I'd say you deserve it, at this point.
I legitimately wonder how she's gone this long without getting punched. Like- did she have fifty bodyguards back home stopping her from getting punched at all times? Because even before this she was just so annoying, all the fucking time.
[ She'd probably be less salty if Rita wasn't such a bitch about her specific area of expertise, but probably not substantially less. ]
We're not that weird, [ Darcy argues way too quickly, ] and I told him that like- you told other adults anyway. It's not weird.
[ And she's just going to start making her way towards the elevator without arguing that point further, half-looking over her shoulder. The Captain isn't going to show up now, and it's probably a good thing- even the 'thanks for bringing him back' he got last time would stick in her throat this time around. ]
It was very good snow too, deep and powdery. I tried to make sure to get some good video running through it because it's very pretty when it all flies up in front of you. And the trees were very good too. I liked climbing them and sleeping in them.
[Satisfied to hear that she enjoyed it, he moves onto the next question.]
My other questions are about the Tommy Bahamas. I have noticed that it changes with new clothes, and the damage fixes itself. If I built something in the store, would it also be cleaned up and taken away?
Draw a shape with blood. Tell it what you want. It happens. That is, almost word for word, how that bastard explained it to me. [though to be fair, he was rushing. the first time. the second time, less so.] And I only know the two. One for breaking that weird magic glass the Captain makes, and another for bribing the Erda. That's all.
Um... Well, if you tell me about it, I can do my very best to make sure it's not! [friday doesn't allow her favorites to break rules that's silly she doesn't even have favorites]
( something gnaws at the edge of her consciousness, like teeth against a fingernail. )
So they're... dormant. Sleeping? Unaware of anything other than the need to be fed right now, but... Friday made it sound like it'd hurt them if anyone tried to seek them out.
( admittedly, thinking a little about how valdis talked about having her soul returned to her after being a hangry killing machine for a long stretch.
... )
Do you think that's what's behind the crew bulkhead? Did you and your group ever get to see what's in there?
Thank you. Erin has suggested I make an escape room. I am not entirely sure if I want to make that exactly, but it will be very similar I think. I would like to build a few rooms that are enclosed that people would go inside of. Then could do puzzles maybe. Or I could chase them around in them. But I will mark the area out so it is easy to see what part of the store I am trying to make a thing in.
[He leans forward, and his tail points straight up with delight.]
My last question is for you. Is there anything I did not capture on the video that you would like to see? I will always run very fast and climb trees, but I could take footage of other things too.
