[Just... has to engage in small talk for a minute. No reason, obviously. But while he's here...]
You know, if you didn't turn your head like that, nobody would be able to tell where you're staring. I do it all the time. Makes it harder for people to know when you might be nervous. Or that you've noticed they're up to something.
[Wow, that sure is a truthful thing he just said.]
Ah! Good. Then you'll be happy to know that your attempt to convey tension at my arrival has been a success. And the fact that you looked at the water bottle tells me that you probably already know the purpose of my visit.
[he shrugs] I may find you challenging to look directly at, but at least I can appreciate the effort it takes to emote with even less of a face than normal. Sympathize? Maybe. Is that the right word?
Ah, I can resonate with that one. Until Mizuki, I didn't much care for...
...
Most things. [The jellyfish awakened emotions.] That aside, if I may? The boat could use more gift shops if the jewelry store is out. I realise we just got one shop, but perhaps you could suggest to the Captain that adding more would be beneficial?
[You know, because Ebalon's uncreative and can't make gifts and he's not buying Mizuki a "sorry for kind of being a dick" shirt from the Tommy fucking Bahama.]
Thanks! I've had a lot of experience! [pause] It's a little strange that you still come here first, since you don't believe a word I say, but lots of people do strange things to delay the inevitable! Would you like to start?
[don't mind her, just lurking along invisibly behind Skulduggery, totally normal best friend habit and not at all up to no good. she nudges him lightly in the elbow, letting him know where she is.
can Friday sense her while invisible? see her? that is something she's wanting to figure out.
so she gives a small wave in Friday's direction~ hello~]
[well no she doesn't like that, but! it's good to know instead of embarrassing herself on some sneak up plan that wasn't going to work. ava rematerializes, elbows on the desk.]
Is that really what the Wicked Witch was made of? [boy, he really did not read that...]
Never mind, besides the point. [He grabs the bottle and twists the cap off. It's barely even full, so nobody's in danger of accidental tomfoolery.] You could refuse, you know. I'm capable of enough restraint that I'd take no for an answer. [No guarantees on Ava, but you know, someone has to be a gentleman who doesn't rudely splash people!] You could also save a lot of time by telling me if this won't affect you.
[well if she is affected, then that has to be the truth. because if she was affected and lying, she'd claim that she wasn't. but she could be unaffected and lying to attempt to deter them. ava just... squints.]
Right. Do you know what's causing the water to behave this way?
Alright. [He tips the waterbottle forward and draws a few droplets out with that sweet magic of his. He really needs to practice more with water... anyway! It's just a little moisture to splash across Friday's hand (idk assuming that is the closest part), barely more than, say.. a half-ounce? Just enough to come into contact with skin.]
Just once more: do you know what's causing the water to behave like this?
It's usually a solid 50/50 mix on that! Mostly because, well... I'm affected because most anything that affects the Captain also affects me! It's part of the binding, I think!
He probably wouldn't kill me so often if that was the case! [shrugs] All magical creations have a connection of some kind to their creator! And since blood is the strongest connector of all, mine is a bit more direct than others!
[she's trying to adjust her reasoning around all this, a pause]
But if it affects him, he could have been lying to you. About the cause of all this. Maybe that's why he was embarrassed... if it was out of his control.
[she already has difficulty enough believing anyone is telling the truth on a good day, this is unfair]
