I really don't know if he'd survive that one! [pause, her hands folded together] I don't think I like talking like this anymore! It didn't feel like a problem before...
She really got the farthest out of thousands of tries, did she.
[ hm, well... to be honest, he doesn't quite have questions in mind beyond that, but he's also not exactly a detective-y type. if he could be curious about one thing though, ]
If you feel like it, could you tell me a little more about the two of you? How you grew to like and then love each other... what drew you to her or her to you? Your love story together.
[She still tightly clenches her fist as she glances at Natsuno with a crushed look, but she doesn't fight him. He's right--she knows he's right--but still.]
Don't you dare talk like it isn't all your fault!
[She glares daggers at the captain--or tries to, with tears welling in her eyes.]
[ One day when Friday is minding her own business working at the service desk, she'll get a visit from one Sou Hiyori! He seems to be in a good mood at least. ]
Miss Friday! Just the person I was looking for!
[ Like she's not always there. It's a bit more fun if it's treated as a pleasant surprise. ]
[CAPTAIN + Darcy] sometime after midnight, last weekend of july
[no airborne toxic event lyrics here, just Skulduggery and his junior partner Darcy, coming to see if the Captain's awake enough to deal with two obnoxious interrogations at once. Skulduggery seems basically the same as ever, hands in his pockets as he leads the way up the steps, hanging back against the wall opposite the bridge door instead of going up to knock on it.
this is totally normal for him, which probably isn't a good thing. still, he visibly glances at Darcy, checking her nerves before the Captain maybe shows up. how bad could she be, though, really? they're likely in very little danger. (for now, anyway...)]
[ Darcy, for her part... well, she feels a bit like a pack mule, considering she's the one who's been saddled with the coffee and the single waffle on a plate, along with her notebook and the pen she's tucked into her hoodie pocket. Such is the plight of the assistant. But on the surface she looks calm and assured, a still surface to a quick-running river beneath. She gives him a little head gesture towards the door, as if to say 'whenever you're ready'. ]
[he actually exits through the door this time. well, through, as in he walks through the door itself as if it's not there, without bothering with anything like actually opening it. he has semi-bothered with his human form, except for the eyes, which remain that sort of unnervingly unreal blackness. he looks back and forth between them, eyebrow raised.]
[yeah, that tracks. Skulduggery briefly wonders how many people have tried just outright poisoning him... probably a lot!]
It's supposed to be breakfast. See? [gestures to the single waffle on a plate, because that's what humans eat when they wake up. right??] There's coffee and everything.
[it's called an ice-breaker! he's being extremely casual considering they literally have an audience but hey.]
[ The droll half-joke she has in her head about needing a third for their barber shop trio withers instantaneously at the sight of void where his eyes should be. It's unsettling, a reminder that he only looks human, and a voice hoarse from disuse in the back of her head asks if this is really a good idea. Darcy swallows and tries to recover a bit of her poise as she offers out both the plate and the mug. ]
Yeah, really early breakfast. Hope you like black coffee.
[ At least as far as his taunts go, this is among the weaker ones. ]
I remember. I'm not going to hug you again. Learned my lesson. At least we're even with stabbings now, ehn? I'm basically just here to take notes, you can pretend like I'm not even here.
[there's no outward sign of Skulduggery's internal sigh of relief, it would be totally embarrassing to bring the guy coffee when he didn't drink at all.]
That's an easy enough fix. I could go get some cream and sugar. [aaaand he tilts his head at Darcy,] Or, I don't know... Darcy? Would you be a dear for us? [unless she wants to be the one hanging around talking one-on-one with the Captain...]
