CHARACTER

Name: Gen Asagiri

True Name: Gen Asagiri

Canon: Dr. Stone (end of the manga)

Age: Born 3,763 years ago - physically 35

History: https://dr-stone.fandom.com/wiki/Gen_Asagiri/Synopsis

Powers/Abilities: Gen doesn’t have any magical abilities - but he does have the following skills -
  1. Perfect Liar: Gen can lie while passing a lie detector test in canon. Someone who knows human nature can see that maybe these lies are just a little too perfect and call him out on this. He can convincingly sell outright lies and he can wiggle his way around with half-truths alike.
  2. Masterful Manipulator: The manga has lots of fun pages where Gen explains to the reader how little psychological tricks can help manipulate people, such as giving someone purposefully incorrect information because they'll likely feel compelled to correct you, which would provide more information than a direct question. Gen uses a mix of psychology and showmanship to get people to tell him things, or so they believe his lies, or so they're convinced he's on their side. His skills aren't magic and they don't work on everybody, but he has a very good track record.
  3. Mentalist: Gen knows a lot of (real world, mundane) magic tricks, including slight-of-hand and card manipulation. He knows a lot of astrology and 'fortune-telling' skills, which means he uses his ability to manipulate and read people to 'tell their futures'. He's very good at listening to people and hearing what they aren't saying to sell his 'magic'. He can also 'throw' his voice and expertly impersonate other people, including women. It's not unfair to say that he likely knows contortionist skills and escapism that he might've used in his magic acts as well.
  4. Intelligent: Gen is not a science genius, but he is clever. He can keep up with Senku's reasoning (though not apply it as Chrome does) and he has shown to anticipate the scientist's moves at times. He speaks at least both English and Japanese fluently, and also knows Morse codes and ciphers. He can do a great deal of math in his own head. Despite how he acts on purpose so people don't realize, he is smart, and he will use it to enhance his above skills.

Inventory: His end-of-canon outfit (which also looks like the outfit he wore at his introduction), a deck of playing cards, a deck of tarot cards, and a deck of cards that doesn’t quite fit the definition of a playing card deck or a tarot card deck, a small knife, a ton of flowers (for tricks!), some multicolored handkerchiefs (again, for tricks), an ink pen, and a reinvented cell phone. Err, a smaller version this time, thank you.

Job History:
  1. Diplomat for the Kingdom of Science: Lying, manipulating, sweet-talking, and truth talking all in the name of progress. He would be convincing world leaders that Senku’s science team was working on goals that would benefit all of humanity - that they needed their support and cooperation - and maybe they shouldn’t squabble amongst each other, please. He would likely be recruiting for their Kingdom and doing his best to make certain relations between other countries were also going well. After all, it doesn’t really help them much if the survivors on Earth decided to go to war, now would it?

  2. General of the Kingdom of Science: Lying, manipulating, sweet-talking, and truth talking all in the name of progress. He was helping Senku organize the communities they were unpetrifying around the world in order to build their space program, to face the threat of Why-Man once and for all. He would’ve needed to help Senku sound more diplomatic and charming while convincing others to work with them. He would’ve helped spin ideas and facts to be more digestible to the public. He regularly eavesdropped everywhere he could to help catch drama and conflict and smooth it over before it could erupt. And, before the space program was started - he was the Kingdom’s spy, helping gather data from the Americans, and spied before that against the Kingdom of Might. All throughout, he was Senku’s sounding board and right-hand man.

  3. Spy of the Kingdom of Might: For about five seconds before he decided he was going to befriend this genius, and spy for them instead. He couldn’t tell them that right away, though. Why would they trust him?

  4. Mentalist: World famous, best-selling author and magician both on stage and TV. Known internationally by the age of nineteen.

Suppressions: Gen is often afraid, and has had to do a great many things that he (pre-petrification) wouldn’t do. Risk his life. Face people who’d possibly kill him. Normally he’d want to run from danger, but he has sat on his cowardice. He’s squeamish, he doesn’t like blood or violence, but has had to face those head-on, too. He’s also sentimental and soft, and has needed to come off as self-serving and egotistic in order to fit with a certain image. Gen would really prefer to be comfortable, safe, and not deal with all of these messy things. But he does so for the greater good. Gen has often desired and fantasied about just convincing his roommate Senku to retire and just live peacefully for a while. Surely they’ve earned it? Giving up all of this responsibility?

Greatest Fear
: Becoming petrified again, all of civilization ending again, and this time when he starts from scratch - he has to do it entirely alone.

Greatest Desire: Living a peaceful, quiet life with his best friend.

Greatest Regret: Not being of more use against the Americans. (Was it his fault they were nearly all wiped out by them?)
