[damn. that complicates matters somewhat. he doesn't suspect for a moment that it's a matter of personal preference; if Friday says she can't tell him, she means it. but, unfortunately for her, he's used to having to talk around her magical censors, and he's only the first in a line of people who will be coming for answers.]

This would be much easier for me to drop if Fio weren't involved. And now that Ava is concerned, it's only a matter of time before she comes asking questions herself. Is there anything you can tell me?

[that doesn't mean he's done with the questions -- but it does mean that he'll need to take a minute to mull it over, first. something that Friday knows but the Captain doesn't. something Fio would be at least tangentially involved with...]

Something Fio and you had a falling out about that you can't tell me about. Because, I assume, if you tell me, I'll wind up telling the Captain, who can't know because it would cause this entire realm to collapse. Great. Love that. [some might say he's being sarcastic, due to the tone of his voice. they'd be right.]

For your sake, Friday, I hope you can figure out a way to communicate the issue, because Ava is going to come with questions, and eventually I'm going to have to come back with more myself.

[he has little doubt that others will put that to the test, but at the end of the day, Friday is designed to keep things running smoothly. he assumes she'll do whatever she can to ensure their reality doesn't crumble around them.]

I believe you when you say that. Although -- why can't you tell me, as opposed to the others? Is it because of my relationship with the Captain?

Ah. I see. I take it that there are more things he's unaware of than just this one incident... [interesting. very interesting. super duper unhelpful right now but! still good to know.]

Can you at least tell me if there's anything I can do to ensure Fio stays out of danger?
