[ he offers over ‘robinson crusoe’, bookmarked to man friday’s naming by crusoe. ] Mhm, here it is. I’ve searched many stories but I’ve only found this one, so far.

[she takes the book, looking over the cover.]

... Oh, gosh, I haven't heard of this one at all! I was talking about an entirely different story... What's this one about?

[wimdy]

A different one, really! [ well, he does like reading all of this new fiction to him, so. he won’t complain about doing more of that at all. ] Seems I’ll have to do more reading.

The story is about a man shipwrecked on an island, who befriended and… hmm, convinced this native ‘Friday’ to be his manservant. [ no doubt there’s a lot to be read or interpreted about friday and crusoe, but he’s a bard and not quite like, a lit grad student. still! ] I don’t suppose our Captain and Mr Crusoe are terribly similar but you are his servant, right?

Oh, so that's where the Friday part comes from? I didn't know that! [she thinks...] I guess I am! Though, I didn't need any convincing; he made me for it!

[she pauses] When you were looking, did you see... There's a book of ancient myths, by a man named Ovid! One of them is about Pygmalion, and that's what the Captain was thinking about when he gave me my name!

[wimdy]

[ oh— ] I saw that one, I believe! I’d like to read everything in the library if possible, I do collect stories to tell tales. But I… perhaps I’m in the middle of this epic about a ring… [ distracted by tolkien, whoops. ] I’ll have to set it aside to pick up this Ovid, though.

Anyway, have you happened to learn mine yet?

Well, no, not really... The Captain says you were a god, but he didn't say much else!

Oh, so he knows.

Maybe my god’s name isn’t very important, then. But, Mr. Yuri said he would… collect them. Is that also true?

He is a bit of a snoop, yes...

Yes, I'd say that's true! He just likes any sort of interesting person, really, and gods can be very interesting!

What would it take for him to free us?

[ not that he thinks it could possibly be as simple as asking, but. he’s tired and sober and not functioning at his best, as if he ever does. ]

[she falls silent, fussing with the papers in front of her.]

... Nothing. Everything. [pause] It's always a trick. Always.

Ehe… it surely couldn’t be that simple, but it was worth asking.

Then, can I show you something else?

[a pause... then, she nods.]

[ he takes out his phone to scroll to a picture (paling and scrolling very quickly past the pic of his own severed head because oh fucking god)

the pic he’d be looking for would be a sketch of the sigils on jenny’s walls, on note paper, copied quite accurately from memory. ]

I saw these on Miss Jenny’s walls, in her ship. Would you happen to know what they’re meant for?

... Ah, I see! How do I explain... Sigils aren't just used for doing things, you know! Every entity has their own sigil, an image that represents them! That just happens to be Jenny's, even if it's a bit... off, I guess! It's not quite right!

[like you were trying to draw something from a memory you can feel slipping.]

[ well that brings up a host of questionable… questions. ]

So, she… might be trying to remind, or remember herself? These were written on her walls, over and over.

She's just going through some things! It can't be very easy on the mind, living out of reality so much like she does...

By reality you mean… this reality? Within the barrier?

Do you know what her usual, original sigil looks like?

Oh, any reality works, I think! It's when you're passing between them that things tend to get a little, well...

[twirls fingers around temple]

It looked a bit like that, but a bit different! I can't really explain it, I think...

Hm, I could only imagine.

I’d like to help her remember but she did leave… actually, she left her star chart behind, you saw her do that. Shouldn’t she have taken it?

Hm...

Well, it just means she might waste some time, I think! Visiting realities that already told her that they aren't interested in whatever she has planned! [which she is absolutely not being purposefully vague about at all.]

I assume, taking down the Captain and retrieving her loved ones. [ seems a safe enough bet, unless there would be something else unexpected.

actually it kind of belatedly occurs to him he has his own anemo sigil to cast wind domains, but it definitely works differently than jenny’s or the other sigils. … let’s maybe keep that info away from friday though he doesn’t suppose she could make use of it. maybe the captain can. ]

… I suppose I have one last question then if that’s all right.

[ ... ] I realized, back at that very first icebreaker party, I hadn't actually asked anything about you specifically. And I still haven't.

So I suppose my question is--is there something you'd like to do, besides serve? Something maybe you haven't done before?

... [she falls silent, hands folded in front of her.]

Well, it's, um... That's definitely a question I've been asked a lot, recently...! And I guess the truth is, um... I really don't know! I wasn't made to like things, really! It's just not something I think about!

It's fine if you don't know, but~ let's say 'I don't know' isn't an answer that will get you a sticker.

Any little thing at all. For instance, travel somewhere? [ somewhere not a death island. ] Eat a favorite dessert? Go skydiving?
