Do you know what's the next excursion going to be?

I don't have a single clue! He likes to give a vague hint later on in a month if something is going to happen, and then I write that down on the sign-up sheet!

So after he gives a hint, you don't know if it's one of the "bad" or "nice" ones?

[palfriday]

I can usually figure it out from context clues! He's usually much giddier if it's a bad one, so if he's pleased, people will probably die!

...yeah, that makes sense.

I have another question, if you don't mind. Can passengers go to realities that aren't their own? Ones not created by the captain.

[Jenny has to be going SOMEWHERE, right?]

You can go to whatever realities you'd like, but it does take a toll if you do it too often! People aren't really built to leave reality, after all!

What kind of "toll"?

[puts her finger up to her temple, screws it around a little.]

[Again, makes sense. The captain DID say watching a reality collapse could drive them crazy, so maybe crossing over is the same?]

Jenny doesn't seem so... [Mimics the motion.] Is that why the captain knocks us out on excursions?

Well, you never met her before she started spending all her time exposing herself to cosmic dread constantly, did you...

[a nod] That and the time! That can break a mortal's mind just on its own, sometimes!

[Good point about Jenny. She looked sane enough (starting a violent angry storm is valid) but Venti did mention something about her forgetting herself... I should start an IC knowledge tracker]

The time. You mean how long it takes to cross realities?

[palfriday]

Sometimes it takes a lot longer than you'd think! Or, well, it feels like it does, because time is relative!

...right. I only know 10th grade physics, so.

How long did it... feel, for the previous excursions?

[Surely the return from murder island felt long because it was depressing and awkward?]

I'm not really sure! I've never actually experienced it, myself, but I do know several Fridays have had to be put down after, so it must feel pretty long!

[...poor Fridays.] You'd think he'd install autopilot in the tender or something.

So the captain and Jenny have some sort of protection when they cross? To shield their mind at least a little?

He did! [... SO.]

Not really, beyond the sort of hardiness the immortal brain develops against that kind of thing! [... SO.]

[SO INDEED. He has some questions about these Fridays, but first - ]

I'm immortal now. Could I do it?

Oh, no, you'd have to live a really long time, first! You're just a baby immortal!

[He frowns, a little offended at the use of "baby", even though the point is valid.]

Well, there are other immortal passengers who are way older than me. [Lumine's 600, not to mention Venti and Ebalon... how old do you have to GET to not lose it?] Is that why those Fridays lost it during the trip? Because they were babies compared to you?

[palfriday]

Yep! Also a sort of "inherent instability in the model!" [just drops into a perfect mimicry of the Captain's voice for a second there.]

[That's creepy as hell. Uncanny valley, as he and Clarke discussed not long ago. Natsuno's expression flattens.]

But he created the model. So he basically admits to doing a lazy job. Is that why you don't leave the ship?

[palfriday]

It's mostly the part of him that can't risk losing me, but that's definitely a factor!

[Well.] What happens if he loses you?

[palfriday]

I really don't know if he'd survive that one! [pause, her hands folded together] I don't think I like talking like this anymore! It didn't feel like a problem before...
