It's one of the downsides of this nasty little heroic streak I have. But I happen to be fantastic at compartmentalizing when duty calls.
[he leaves the offer on the table, just in case, although he becomes distracted tracing his fingers up his neck and across his jaw.]
They're not going to do anything to me. They'd be too intimidated by your retaliation, and they won't want to upset Fio. I may very well be the most well-protected passenger on board.
I would rather kill half of the people on this ship than cause her any more disappointment than I already had.
[this is a great flirting technique, right? he digs his fingers into his beard, finally climbing into the Captain's lap.]
Thankfully, that will not be a choice I'll need to make, because they're all better than that. The only risk I run is losing some friends... and that just means more time to spend with you.
[ah, competition, his favorite... but, as his hand reaches out to cup his jaw, it falters, and he draws back before even he seems to realize he's done it. his face reddens.]
... I've never been so terrified to mess with magic I don't understand.
[his own hand trails after the one retreating, catching it in a gentle grip.]
You haven't hurt me yet. [he draws that warm hand back to his jaw.] Let's just start like this, then. I can feel the heat under your skin, the pressure of your fingers against my bones, and that's more than enough for now.
[he tilts into the touch, watching his face for any microscopic change in expression.]
If something in me is changed by the way you touch me, I know it will be for the better. And if you never again feel ready to burn through to my marrow, know I'm already more than satisfied with this alone. I trust you.
[the care and hesitation keeps Skulduggery still in his lap, avoiding physical or metaphorical pressure even as he feels the wild heat behind his hand. if he could close his eyes, he would, but getting to stare at the Captain is a fine alternative.]
It's because I love you. You can't have one without the other.
[his other hand trails down his side, dipping under clothes until it rests on his hip. safer territory, he thinks, pulling back the glamour there as well.]
Continually lucky that I get more than I ever deserve...
You're... you. [he bows his head slightly, embarrassed to have to quantify what he thinks should be a straightforward statement.] There are endless versions of myself, folded into one being but just as easily separated from each other. You could pluck me from a dozen different moments, like apples from a tree. But I would never be able to find anything more than a memory of what you used to be. And I'd never have expected someone so singular to look at me and see anything other than an arrogant, ambulatory anatomy model.
[as he rambles, his hands move back down to the collar of the Captain's shirt, pulling lightly -- nervously -- at the edges.]
[he goes still as he speaks, hardly even remembering to breathe. because he's never thought of himself like that, not even at his most confident. a part of him even wants to argue - that he's replaceable, interchangeable, maybe even just one of an endless series of black wisps under endless yokes - but there are more important things to focus on, and the voices of old masters go quiet.]
To me, there's only one you - this one, here, in my arms... Random chance brought you to me, and I finally understand why early humans thought luck was a god.

I like knowing you're up here longing for me when I'm away. Besides, you'd get tired of me if I were here all the time.

[...]
I'm not up here longing. [beat] Not all the time...

I am the best version of myself there is. [it's a joke, but the edges are softened by sincerity.] Mostly because I have you.
