Friday assumes it's her fault, too. [he brushes some of his hair away from his face, twining several strands lightly through his fingers.] The thing is, she isn't sure how it happened, either.

[he might think it's boring, but mysteries are basic enrichment for skeleton detectives. that goes doubly so for mysteries that threaten his own family.]

[he maintains an expression of perfectly schooled seriousness, even as he leans into the touch.]

[a pause] Besides, she's quite specifically terrible at keeping these sorts of secrets. It's best to keep her in the dark about it.

I think the VCR is a bit better informed than her, and we're not being particularly subtle...

I'll continue to keep it vague, then. We don't need to be overshadowing the wedding party. [not before they're even married!]

[as far as Skulduggery's concerned, nobody's going to figure it out, even as brazen as they've been.]

[he laughs, certain he'll be delighted by that reaction for a long while.]

Even in books. [beat] Well, except for the ones that end with slaughtering the wedding party, but I'm not sure that's applicable...

Maybe there's something I could do to make up for you not torturing the grooms-to-be?

[he looks up at him, eyebrows raised.]

Bribing is a bit strong... I was thinking this was more along the lines of negotiation.

[he brushes his thumb against the shell of his ear, unable to visibly express the tender regard in his gaze.]

I think it would be nice. I think you might enjoy the experience, even without violent sabotage. And, I'll admit, I very selfishly would like to see everyone's faces when they realize you aren't going to incite a bloody massacre.

[his eyes widen, glinting slightly.]

Oh, that does sound very funny... Some of them will spend the whole time waiting for the other shoe to drop, and then it never does...

[a determined nod]

Okay. I'm convinced. It will be a lovely wedding.

Imagine, a few ominous hints about "until death do you part..." [he can't help a little laugh at the thought.] They won't know what won't hit them.

Oh, that part would have to be amended. After all, under the traditional rules, the marriage would be null and void within a month, at best.

[a grin] I'll have to work on it.

[there is an ulterior motive here, of course: the chance for everyone, friend and foe alike, to see what he sees. it's selfish and silly, but he does hope it helps.]

Well, negotiations on my end have gone fantastically. Is there something you'd like from me in return? Or am I witnessing more of your surprising generosity?
