Fantastic. [moving right along] Just a few quick questions. Starting with the most pressing... Did any of that armor come through between our last conversation and what happened at the last excursion?

[their last conversation being the one where he said "please destroy any of the armor that comes through."]

Um... I don't think so! [beat. a little put-out:] You never told me it could move...

[his head dips forward slightly as he imitates a sigh.]

It caught me by surprise, too. If I'd known it was possible, I would've told you. Nobody's come to bother you over it, have they?

Oh, no! They come bother me over lots of other things!

I can imagine there's plenty to keep them distracted. That's fine. [let them panic, he's got work to do.]

The second thing... You're the one who wrote the welcome letter new passengers receive, correct?

Yep, that's me! It's pretty good, huh!

It is. I actually quite like the bit that implies that we had a choice in the matter.

[he's being 100% sincere.]

I was wondering if you'd be open to maybe... adding a little more information to it? Or, perhaps enclosing a brochure with the letter? Something to help the newest arrivals get their bearings a bit quicker.

You know, "you can't go back home, some of your powers have been disabled for the safety of other passengers, we strive to have murder-free excursions whenever possible..." That sort of thing.

... None of that sounds awfully welcoming...

Well, that's only because I don't have a welcoming bone in my body.

Is it something you'd be willing to entertain, at least?

Well, I mean, because it's from you, I'll pretty much say yes to anything! Even if I think it's a really bad idea! [beat] Not that this is a bad idea, but, just in general!

Hmmm. [well, that won't do. he needs it to actually be a good idea...

well, he'll find someone to run it by first, then. if he can't trust Friday to tell him what's what, he'll rely on the others.] That's good to know.

There's one other thing I wanted to ask you about, and then I'll get out of your hair.

Could you keep an eye out for a .22 caliber handgun in the flotsam? Any light-caliber pistol or revolver would be fine, really.

Ava said you didn't think Fio would want a birthday card from you. She seemed to think you and her had some sort of falling out?

[but that's crazy, right? Friday doesn't fight with passengers, especially not the nice ones!]

[he does know how kids can be... but most importantly, he knows how Fio can be.]

Hmm. Did she say something that upset you? Or maybe it was the other way around?

[just goes. completely still. like she's avoiding a t-rex.]

[he genuinely can't decide if she thinks that will work or if it's just a default reaction.]

Whatever happened, Fio is a good kid. I'm sure she didn't mean to upset you.

... [very slowly, and purposefully:]

Ah.

[damn. that complicates matters somewhat. he doesn't suspect for a moment that it's a matter of personal preference; if Friday says she can't tell him, she means it. but, unfortunately for her, he's used to having to talk around her magical censors, and he's only the first in a line of people who will be coming for answers.]

This would be much easier for me to drop if Fio weren't involved. And now that Ava is concerned, it's only a matter of time before she comes asking questions herself. Is there anything you can tell me?
