Oh! Well, gosh... I'll be sure to take extra good care of it!
[she lifts up the paper rose delicately, seeming to examine it... then, she makes a small affirmative noise, and places the rose in the little cup of pens on her desk. it's like a little vase! she shifts the conch so that it's seated artfully next to the cup, and then steps back to admire her work.]
[ That works too. It does look like a little vase! Fio brightens up with a wider smile, glad that Friday seems to like the gifts. ]
Thank you for all your hard work. [ A pause, her smile faltering. ] And I'm really sorry if... the ghost that was possessing me caused a lot of trouble.
I'm pretty sure the one I had has all of yours beat! [beat] And, um, nobody should blame themselves for anything a ghost got up to while wearing their body! You wouldn't be a bank robber if somebody wore your shirt while robbing a bank, right?
[ She's not going to think too deeply over the example and just nods after a moment. She's been assured multiple times that it wasn't her fault... ]
I'm really happy that you're back and things are back to normal. I did my best to clean up when you were away. [ In the short time she wasn't possessed. Still, it was... too much. ] Um... is there any way to help the ghosts? Without letting them switch places with people.
[ The lack of answer to her question is very obvious! An awkward pause, as if waiting for her to say something else. ]
...
[ She just starts talking again. ]
I heard the ghosts were mean and upset and everything, but I guess that's 'cause they gotta go back to a not very nice place. I really didn't like that place either... so I was wondering if we could help them come back outside. Maybe we could talk to them and help them become happy again...
[ And maybe they could become friends too and all live happily ever after... ]
Well, um. Most ghosts... It's not very nice, being a ghost, and if you go through not very nice things for a really long time... You don't end up being very nice yourself.
... If anybody could become a nice ghost, though, it'd definitely be you, Miss Fio.
[ She doesn't plan on giving up any time soon. Only curious. And even if she's interested in living a life off of the ship, she knows there's a possibility that she might disappear before seeing that goal. She knows it's possible to come back too. Maybe her heart's content enough to keep living on the ship, despite the horrors that happen sometimes... ]
I hope I can always stay kind. I don't wanna give you any trouble. Or anyone.
How do you know that? [ Then why did all the bad things happen? ] ...It's okay, Miss Friday. It makes me feel sad when I think about it but I don't cry as much anymore 'cause there's lots of nice people here.
[ A pause, thinking for a moment. Suddenly, she starts to smile big. ]
I think so too! I want everybody to be happy. I got my chance here! I feel like... my wish was answered.
[ She knows that's not how things work, that people are brought in by luck. One of the few pieces of information she understood from the black binder. I don't want to die. Somebody help! Help help help— she remembers her plea in her last moments, among her thoughts of self-deprecation. But still, when she thinks about when she first showed up on the ship, it does feel like she was saved... ]
... Hm. You know? Maybe it was! [she leans forward slightly, voice lowering almost conspiratorially.] Wishes do come true, you know! There's lots of different ways out there!
My friend Mr. Monster was collecting my bad dreams so his wish could come true-- so he could turn human someday.
[ That was back in The Cage, a place she can no longer go to anymore. Unfortunately she never got a chance to see Levania's wish come true. ]
...Did you know that making a thousand paper cranes can grant your wish? Yuuyu told me so! [ Natsuno, she means. She sort of missed out on a month of working on her project due to being possessed though... ] I'm still working on it. [ Her voice goes smaller into an excited whisper: ] And when I'm done, I'm gonna wish for everyone's happiness.
[ Does it lose its effectiveness if she tells someone about her wish? She has no idea. If it does, then she'll just have to make a thousand more cranes. ]
Oh, that's one of my favorite ways! Because, even if it doesn't work, you still end up with lots of little paper crane friends! [happy sigh] Wishing on stars, dandelion seeds, stones that hold the wish of a people, holding your breath when you cross a bridge... Humans really do love making wishes, don't they!
Hee hee. You're right. [ And she'll have a thousand paper cranes to name! ] I won't give up, if it doesn't work. I've never heard about wishing on dandelion seeds and stones... I've gotta try that!

You can have them. You could put the flower in your hair too! That's what Polly did. [ Pollux, she means. ] I think you'd look really pretty.

[probably too long of a pause.]
I... don't really think that's something that can happen...

How come?

Maybe there's a way for it to happen and we just haven't figured it out yet!

There's always a chance! You just have to keep trying and never give up!

...Miss Friday? Do most ghosts here become all mean and angry? ...Can I become a nice ghost?
